Overview
In 2024, TIME included Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat in its World’s Greatest Places, highlighting our Billion Star Dining experience combining food and guided astronomy beneath the dark skies of the Mackenzie. In 2026, Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat joined Small Luxury Hotels of the World, an international collection of independently spirited luxury hotels selected for their individual character and sense of place. The Retreat and its experiences have also appeared in New Zealand and international travel, food and lifestyle media, with stories spanning our villas, cuisine, dark sky experiences, wellness, weddings and our location beside Lake Pukaki, Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park and the Southern Alps. Recognition is valued, but it is most meaningful when it reflects what we have always set out to create: an independent New Zealand retreat with a strong sense of place, genuine hospitality and experiences that belong here.
