Staying at the Retreat

Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat is a family-owned alpine estate overlooking Lake Pukaki in New Zealand’s Mackenzie Basin. Private villa accommodation, estate-to-plate dining at The Moraine, astronomy at Pukaki Observatory & Wine Cellar and restorative wellness experiences are all based on the Estate.

Our five villas accommodate up to 22 overnight guests. Ashley Mackenzie Villa, Villa Puaka and Pukaki Homestead overlook Lake Pukaki towards Aoraki / Mount Cook and the mountains, while Villa Matariki and Villa Tautoru overlook the Ben Ohau Range.

The four two-bedroom villas can be reserved with guests retaining private use of their villa. Pukaki Homestead has three bedrooms. Super king beds can be configured as twin king singles.

Planning Your Clients’ Stay

Give your clients time to settle in, enjoy their villa and experience the estate alongside the wider region.

Daily evening meal and breakfast is included for guests. Stargazing, private astronomy sessions, yoga, cuisine experiences, massage and regional adventures can be arranged around their interests. Estate walks, forest bathing, tennis and private artesian hot tubs offer opportunities to slow down between excursions.

Located at 86 Mount Cook Road (State Highway 80), near Twizel and overlooking Lake Pukaki, the Retreat is a natural stop within a South Island journey linking Christchurch, the Mackenzie region, Wānaka and Queenstown.

Its position midway between Christchurch and Queenstown international airports makes it an ideal base for a few nights exploring the region and enjoying the estate. Our team can help shape your clients’ stay, connect it with complementary destinations and assist with road transfers or helicopter arrivals. On-site helipads provide direct access by prior arrangement.

Please share dietary requirements, bedding preferences and any special occasions or accessibility needs when planning a visit.
