FAQ's About Wellness

Find answers to some of the most common questions about our wellness experiences.

  • What wellness experiences are available at Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat?

Wellness is woven throughout a stay rather than offered as a fixed programme. Experiences may include massage, yoga and stretching, forest bathing, walking, tennis, cycling, outdoor exploration, private hot tubs, nourishing estate-to-plate dining and stargazing beneath the dark skies of the Mackenzie Basin.

  • Does Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat offer massage?

Yes. Massage and selected wellness experiences can be arranged during your stay, subject to availability. We recommend booking in advance where possible.

  • Can I practise yoga during my stay?

Yes. There is space for private yoga, stretching and gentle movement, either indoors or outside when conditions allow.

  • What is forest bathing?

Forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, is the practice of slowing down and spending unhurried time immersed in nature. It is less about exercise and more about noticing your surroundings through sight, sound, scent and touch.

  • Are there walking and fitness activities at the Retreat?

Yes. Guests can walk or run the estate trails, play tennis, cycle, stretch, practise yoga and explore the wider Mackenzie landscape. Your villa also provides a private place to rest and recover afterwards.

  • Do the villas have private artesian hot tubs?

Selected all villas offer private outdoor artesian hot tubs, allowing guests to relax beneath wide alpine skies by day and the stars after dark. Our team can advise which villa best suits the experience you are looking for.

  • What is the Alpine Wellness Sanctuary?

The Alpine Wellness Sanctuary is a new dedicated wellness facility being created within the estate. With an infinity pool, sauna and cold plunge, hot tub garden, massage, yoga and movement spaces, and quiet landscaped gardens, it will be a place to revive and rest.

  • When will the Alpine Wellness Sanctuary open?

The Alpine Wellness Sanctuary is planned to open in 2028 as the next stage in the evolution of wellness at Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat.

  • Can I combine a wellness stay with stargazing?

Yes. Wellness at the Retreat extends into the night. Guests can experience the stars through Pukaki Observatory or simply step outside beneath the exceptionally dark Mackenzie sky before returning to the privacy and natural darkness of their villa.

  • Can I plan a wellness retreat near Aoraki / Mount Cook?

Yes. Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat is located beside Lake Pukaki on the road to Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park, making it possible to combine restorative time at the estate with walking, cycling, alpine exploration and some of the Mackenzie Region’s most remarkable landscapes.
